Football
Football was the top seed going into the 6A playoffs with 26 players getting all-region honors including Central Region Offensive Player of the Year Logan Powell ’25. The team lost in the semifinals of the playoffs to Mountain View, Mesa finishing the season with an 11-2 record.
Cross Country
Cross country finished in 10th place at the division one state championship. Senior Santiago Sanchez ’25 led the team in 16:16 for a 5k at the state championship and ran 3 miles in 14:55 at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic. 26 of the top 30 Brophy runners will return next season.
Swim & Dive
Swim and Dive won the division one state championship for the 43rd time and the first time since 2019. Mark Heffern ’26 and Patrick Dunn ’27 each won individual state titles in the 200 yard individual medley and 500 yard freestyle respectively. Brophy beat second place Pinnacle by over 80 points.
Golf
Golf beat Millenium and Perry in the division one state championship by 21 strokes. This is the team’s 10th state championship. Dylan Boenning ’25 was second individually, losing to first place by just one stroke. Asher Nelson ’27 and Jack Langbein ’27 also finished in the top 10.
Basketball
Basketball won the 6A state championship after losing to Perry in the open state playoffs. This is the Broncos first basketball state championship after being runner-up four times previously. Daylen Sharper ’26 was voted team MVP while Ryan Burbach ’25 was the offensive player of the year and three seniors were voted co-defensive players of the year.
Soccer
Soccer finished the season with an 11-8-2 record and won the Rams Tournament. The Broncos beat Ironwood, Dysart, and Verrado on their way to winning the tournament with a game winning goal from Jared Garcia ’26 in the championship against Washington. The team won two games in the state tournament before losing to Kofa.
Wrestling
Jackson Sweetman ’25 finished as the runner up at state at 215 pounds. Adam Angulo ’26 and Landon Jurek ’27 were also third and sixth at 150 and 190 pounds respectively. As a team, the Broncos took 13th at the state championship with 48 points.
Rugby
U19 Rugby won the state championship last season but is just 1-4 so far this season. Despite this, they beat Tempe 31-17 in the state semifinals and will play in the state championship on Apr. 26.
Crew
National champion Ian O’Riley ’24 graduated at the end of last year but the team has rebounded strong. Noah Sunshine ’25 and Brody Jennings ’26 both won their individual events and together in doubles at the Desert Sprints event. Sophomore Quincy Sweet ’27 also won the U17 division as an individual at the same event.
Baseball
Baseball went 24-6 in the 2024 season but lost eight seniors that committed to play in college. So far the team is just 7-9. Senior pitchers Benton Hickman ’25 and Jack Lafflam ’25 are both committed to play collegiately for the University of Arizona. Ronan O’Brien ’26 was named the Arizona Republic player of the week after his performance against Chandler.
Tennis
Senior Ryan Zerbib ’25 earned All-American honors for the second straight year after going undefeated at the All-American HS Invitational in California. As a team, the Broncos went 2-2 at the invitational beating teams from California and Maryland.
Track and Field
Currently, four of the top eight performers in the 110 meter hurdles in division one are from Brophy. William Despong ’25, Nero Nuez ’25, Darius Alberty ’25 and Brendon Luke ’26 all run under 15 seconds in the event.
Volleyball
Volleyball is currently 23-8 with a few games left in the regular season. The team placed fifth at the Brophy invitational and third at the Wolf Howl invitational. Senior Setter Colin Zimmerman ’25 is committed to continue his volleyball career at MIT next year.
Archery
Archery finished as the runner-up at the state championship for the second straight season. Valentine Morales ’27 and Mason Hutchison ’28 finished fourth and fifth respectively in their competitions at the state championships.
Hockey
Hockey had another disappointing season finishing towards the bottom of the Arizona High School Hockey Association D1 League. The Broncos missed the division one playoff tournament.
Lacrosse
Lacrosse is entering the A.L.L. state playoffs as the number one overall seed. The team has won the previous three state championships. The Broncos finished the regular season with a 14-7 overall record including a 10-0 record against opponents in Arizona.
Mountain Biking
Mountain Biking finished in second place at the conference championship. Senior Edwin Beltran ’25 finished in fifth place for the race series. At the opening race in Flagstaff, the team finished in third place and Beltran took sixth place individually.
Esports
Esports was runner-up in Overwatch at regionals and reached the semi-finals in several other competitions. The Broncos are also undefeated at Rocket League this year. The team hopes to win a national title in the near future, likely in either Chess or Overwatch.
