Bishop John Dolan officiating the Mass of the Holy Spirit, Friday, August 15, 2025.
Bishop John P. Dolan of the Diocese of Phoenix joined Brophy in celebrating the Mass of the Holy Spirit on Friday, August 15th to welcome in the new school year.
Each year, Brophy continues this Catholic tradition and gets an important figure to speak, and this year it was Bishop Dolan.
In his sermon, Bishop Dolan talked about the importance of taking the scenic route in life. When we take this path and we appreciate the little things along the way, we are able to notice God’s presence in all that we do.
“We try to get someone important to come pray with us to start the year to have an important year,” said Vice President for Mission and Identity Father Bill Muller, S.J., when asked about Bishop Dolan’s visit.
Father Mark Bosco, Vice President for Mission and Ministry at the University of Georgetown presided over the Mass of the Holy Spirit for the 2024-25 school year.
The Mass of the Holy Spirit has been the opening mass for Jesuit schools for nearly 500 years.
This year, the Mass of the Holy Spirit fell on the day of the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
As Brophy Students come together to pray, they join in tradition with Jesuit school students around the world.
“Every Jesuit school around the world has a Mass of The Holy Spirit to ask for inspiration, help, and guidance”, Fr. Muller said.
