Brophy Varsity Golf finished in second place at the Brophy Rodeo, a nation-wide tournament featuring some of the best high school golf teams in the country, on Aug. 22-23, 2025.
Brophy’s podium finish against teams like Corner Canyon (Utah) the number one ranked high school golf team in the country and Notre Dame Prep the number three ranked team, qualifies them as a top competitor in the country.
“All in all, team effort, I thought we represented ourselves really well, we represented Brophy really well, and it was a successful tournament,” said Head Coach Mr. Jon Shores.
Junior Asher Nelson ’27 was a top performer in the tournament. He led the Brophy team shooting under par in both rounds and finished in fourth place. When asked about his performance and influence on the team, Mr. Shores said, “He led the way for us…he set the standard for the team, they recognized him in that regard as the sort of leader, and he just went out and did what he was supposed to do playing in our number one spot. Look forward to him leading the way a lot this season as one of our best.”
The Brophy Student Council was in attendance at the Rodeo dressed up in the “Brophy Broncos” letters. They brought energy during the whole tournament and helped motivate the athletes overall.
“The student government members that were there really gave the golfers and every one around them a worthwhile experience. I feel like we definitely changed the atmosphere,” said StuCo member Nico McGalla ’28.
Brophy Varsity Golf will play their next tournament, the Brophy Invitational, on Sep. 3-4, 2025 at Papago Golf Club.
