By Jace Riley ’16
THE ROUNDUP

In 2013 there was a multitude of bad and good movies, spanning all all categories.

In action and adventure movies there were “Pacific Rim” and “Elysium”.

“Pacific Rim” brought stellar visual effects and an actually good and fresh storyline on an old concept.

The effects were truly outstanding and left viewers in awe.

In “Elysium”, Matt Damon gave a stellar performance to go along with the amazing plot.

Neill Blomkamp made another movie that has a deep meaning underneath the great effects.

In the comedy genre, we got “This is The End” and “The World’s End”.

“This is The End” pits actors trying to survive the apocalypse while playing themselves.

Watching Jonah Hill play Jonah Hill is a fun experience.

The hilarious star studded cast includes Channing Tatum and James Franco.

In “The World’s End”, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost team up once again with the man who brought you “Sean of The Dead” and “Hot Fuzz.”

What starts as a night to remember their youth turns into their town acting much stranger than they remember.

This movie is funny, action packed and even a little sad.

Lastly, the drama genre was full of choices and shows how good movies can be.

“American Hustle” and “12 Years a Slave stick” out among the many choices.

“American Hustle” is both a drama that is funny at the same time.

Christian Bale gives a great performance as Irving Rosenfeld.

Amy Adams is so convincing in her role in the movie.

Everything from the story and clothing make this movie a sure win for many awards it will be nominated for.

“12 Years a Slave”, since its release, has been assumed to win best picture.

The wonderful storytelling and set pieces will have you moved by the heartbreaking story.

Moving and well written, “12 Years a Slave” is going to be a tough contender for awards.

As award season approaches, we see how amazing of a year 2013 was for cinema.
