“Call of Duty: Ghosts” is rated M for Mature by the ESRB
Infinity Ward revealed the 10th multiplayer installment of the Call of Duty series, “Call of Duty: Ghosts,” Aug. 14 in Los Angeles, Calif.
Treyarch released the ninth installment, “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2,” last year, and now it is Infinity Ward’s turn to contribute to the decade-long dynasty of first-person shooters.
It should be mentioned that this isn’t any regular year in the world of video games since this year marks the release of the new newest generation of consoles, namely the PS4 and Xbox One.
Infinity Ward has been expected to step up their game–quite literally–this year, as their games will be released for these consoles of a higher caliber, as well as the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Historically for Call of Duty, the multiplayer aspect has been a big selling point. So we will see what they had to offer on Aug. 14 when they officially revealed some gameplay of the multiplayer feature for “Call of Duty: Ghosts.”
While the game won’t be released until later this year, many have already gotten a chance to look at and even play this new game.
Many new exciting features have been added to the classic shooter. “Ghosts” offers a new gun class, a sliding feature, a way to peak around corners, along with new game modes, and even dynamic maps.
The new Marksman class has been introduced as a powerful class that allows a player to win battles with relative ease at both long and medium ranges.
The most popular new game mode, Cranked, forces players to get out into the field and actually be active, rather than just sitting in a corner with their gun trained on the door, waiting for an enemy to come in.
This new game has also boasted character customization within multiplayer, allowing the player to make their character look however they want. This allows for more freedom online, and the opportunity for players to better express themselves through their characters.
Most notably, Infinity Ward is bringing in new dynamic maps to Call of Duty. A dynamic map is a map that can be altered depending on how people play the game.
For example, an area may become newly available or blocked of after a KEM strike is called in, allowing for more interesting, fresh gameplay each round.
“I am really looking forward to the dynamic multiplayer maps,” said Grant Schuchter ’16. “However, I hope that the developers do not go overboard with this new feature.”
While these features sound like great additions to the Call of Duty franchise, according to IGN, a website for video game news, other games such as “Battlefield 4” are going to leverage the next-gen console’s capabilities far beyond that of “Call of Duty: Ghosts.”
