In a time when politics is dividing our nation like no other, students at Brophy College Preparatory are taking a different approach: amicable collaboration.
For example, the Young Republicans and Young Democrats clubs have agreed to come together to discuss the issues that affect our nation and its people. With politics dividing more Americans daily, it seems likely that conflict would arise between them. However, at Brophy, the opposite is occurring.
As stated by Mason Cavallo ’26 of the Young Democrats Club and Matthew Polachek ’26 of the Young Republicans Club, there has been minimal tension between the 2 clubs.
Part of this has been due to the amicable approach taken by both parties and the shared view of bringing the Brophy community together, no matter one’s political beliefs.
Cavallo specifically went into depth about the importance of this within the Young Democrats Club.
“You can pull up to a Young Dems meeting if you’re a Republican, if you’re super far right, or if you’re super far left,” said Cavallo. “We’re going to accept everyone, have discussions, have debates. We like a big open tent policy with that.”
Additionally, both clubs share the importance of informing our Brophy community of their beliefs and ideals in the most civil way possible. Polacheck shared the significance of this within the Young Republicans club.
“I’m here to inform people about politics. Even though we can’t vote, we still need to understand,” said Polacheck. “I’m not here to mess around or just point fingers at people. We need to have civil conversations about this.”
In a nation divided by political beliefs, students at Brophy College Preparatory offer a redefining example of collaboration and unity.
