Agliano discusses dream trip, speaks on education

THE ROUNDUP

Ms. Freeman’s question from the last teachers pet: Did you always know you would be a teacher?

No, I did not always want to be a teacher. If you told 18-year-old Mr. Agliano that he was going to be a teacher, he would have said that is ridiculous. But, over the course of my studies at Boston College Vanderbilt, and study of theology, it eventually happened, Not for any reason other than having a passion for it.

What is your favorite sport to coach at Brophy and why?

My favorite sport is football. At the end of the day, football is the ultimate team sport. You have to rely on your brothers on and off the field for support, commitment, understanding, passion, faith, and all of those things come to play. With football, in particular, the aspects of physical and mental toughness that you need animate the grad at grad and what we are called to do

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would like to take my wife, who is also a teacher at Brophy, to Spain. Specifically, I would like to take my wife to walk the El Camino Ignacio. I think it would be really nice to walk the way of Ignatius with my wife and my daughter.

What is your favorite aspect of the Brophy community?

I appreciate my colleagues and our collective mission of forming young men for others in the Catholic, Jesuit tradition. Witnessing the formation and growth of Brophy students inspires my teaching every year.

What is one of your favorite memories coaching at Brophy?

I cherish the opportunities to hear from former players and getting updates about their lives as well as the camaraderie with other coaches and the lasting friendships that coaching has offered over the years. I have enjoyed watching Coach Heideman continually coach at 211 degrees and wonder when he is going to get to 212.

If you could choose any class other than Scripture to teach at Brophy, what would that class be?

I would love to co-teach an English elective course with Mr. Catan about Ernest Hemingway and the discernment of faith. I could listen to him talk about authors and their works all day long.

What is your question for the next teacher on teacher’s pet?

I would ask the next teacher, What is your favorite part about teaching at a Jesuit School?
