After a combined eight runs in the fifth inning, Brophy was edged out by Desert Vista 6-5 Monday, April 16.

“They put the ball in play; they made plays when they had to,” said head coach Mr. Tom Succow. “They made plays, we didn’t make plays.”

The Thunder drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning off of an RBI single, giving them a 1-0 lead.

Another RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning extended Desert Vista’s lead to 2-0.

The Broncos responded with four runs in the top of the fifth behind Chris Beall ’12 and Jeff Clasen ’12, who both hit two-run homeruns to give Brophy a 4-2 lead.

Desert Vista quickly responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4.

In the top of the sixth inning, David Graybill ’12 got Michael Lucero ’13 in with an RBI single to reclaim the lead at 5-4.

The Thunder scored two runs on an RBI single and an error to regain the lead at 6-5 and eventually, the win.

Mr. Succow said baseball is a sport where you can’t hang on a loss for long.

“We have to move on, we have a game tomorrow night,” Mr. Succow said. “We had some calls that went against us today and we let that bother us a little bit, we have to move past that.”

The Broncos fall to 16-6 overall and will host the Mountain Pointe Pride Tuesday, April 17 and Chaparral Friday, April 20.
