THE ROUNDUP
Hockey is not a sport talked about much on the Brophy campus, but this year the team believes that their recognition will rise.
The varsity team is off to a 3-1 start as of Oct. 15, and members said they think this is definitely a sign of things to come.
Mr. Lane McShane ’82, the Hockey Club moderator, said “we are looking the best in years,” and that “our puck control has really improved.”
The Brophy hockey team faced off in its first state championship bout March 28, but the Notre Dame Prep Saints topped the Broncos 7-1.
The No. 1 seeded Broncos at 15-7-2 took on the No. 1 seeded Notre Dame at 21-2-1. The Saints were on a 10 game win streak going into the game combining both the regular season and the playoffs. The last game they did not win was a tie with the Broncos Jan. 24.
The Brophy hockey team went from a possible sixth seed in the playoffs to a third seed with a convincing 9-3 over the Boulder Creek Jaguars March 12.
The win puts the Broncos overall record at 13-7-2, which qualifies them for a first round playoff matchup against the sixth seeded Horizon Huskies.
“We are completely ready for the playoffs next week,” said Michael Weinberger ’10, the team captain.
