Lacrosse captures third state championship in four years

The Brophy lacrosse team won the 5A-I state championship Friday, May 14, 10-8 against Chandler to bring home their third championship in four seasons, including back-to-back championships in 2007-2008.

Brock Ghelfi ’12 scored four goals and assisted on another according to westsidelax.com, tied with Adam Fishman ’10 for the team lead in points for the game with five.

Brophy trailed 3-2 at the end of the first quarter then took a 6-4 halftime lead. They expanded their lead to 9-6 at the end of the third and tacked on their 10th goal in the final quarter.

Lacrosse season winding down

The Brophy varsity lacrosse team is 14-2 overall and 12-1 against in-state competition as of April 26.

They are sitting at the top of the Division I standings as of April 23, according to AZLax.com.

Some key wins for the Broncos include Menlo, a California team, and Hamilton, a rival of Brophy.
