Ghost Vintage Brings Tokyo Street Wear to the Central Phoenix

Thrift shopping has become a popular trend among the Brophy community. Ghost Vintage, a clothing shop, which recently opened, brings its own spin on traditional vintage style by mixing American classic clothing with rare styles from Tokyo, Japan. Opened by Yasu Hashino, who moved to America when he was only 15, Ghost Vintage is a shop that includes Tokyo style street wear, as well as vintage shoes and toys.
Hashino discovered his love for design and fashion at a young age, and began collecting clothing at the age of 14 while still living in Tokyo.
“I was 14 when I started learning about the fashion world and I made my connections through the modeling industry when I was 17. That experience really helped me hone my taste in clothing,” said Hashino.
This experience in apparel allowed him to take his fashion collecting to the next level, with the ability to recognize valuable pieces and interesting styles that would catch the eye of those with an interest in vintage memorabilia such as throwback basketball jerseys, rare shoes, movie themed t-shirts along with countless other classic memorabilia.
While he was in college at Arizona State University, Hashino discovered his interest in the craft of sushi while working in a sushi restaurant. When Hashino honed his skills in cooking sushi, he opened his own sushi restaurant, Yasu Sushi Bistro.
Hashino put his hobby of collecting clothes to the side and focused, fulltime, on his desire to own his own sushi restaurant. He began working 70 hour weeks to make his dream come to fruition. His hard work paid off and his restaurant Yasu Sushi Bistro came to life.
“This restaurant allowed me to return back to my love of fashion and focus on new goals,” said Hashino. Using his business experience running his successful sushi bistro Hashino acted on another passion of his: fashion. Hashino decided to open up a shop to share his collection with those who share his unique sense of style.
Ghost Vintage soon became a reality and was established just across the street from Brophy’s campus. Hashino encourages those hoping to find a new style to “come on over” and discover a unique quality of Tokyo streetwear.
