Shut-out pitching and 10 runs scored across six innings gave the Brophy baseball team (17-6 overall) their third mercy-rule win of the season 10-0 over the Chandler Wolves (3-11 season) April 15.

Bronco starting pitcher, Dave Graybill ’12 pitched five innings allowing no runs, two hits and no walks while striking out four Wolves on 73 pitches.

Graybill set the tone out there by getting ground ball outs,” said head coach Mr. Tom Succow.

Graybill recorded a total of 15 outs with 10 of them being ground balls.

His counterpart, Brandon Hudson for the Wolves, pitched four innings on 72 pitches allowing nine runs, nine hits and one walk while striking out three Broncos.

The Broncos scored four early runs in the first inning off an RBI fielder’s choice by Graybill, an RBI double by Connor Messman ’13, a run scored off of an error by Chandler and an RBI single by Jeff Clasen ’12.

Brophy scored two more runs in the third off an error and a wild pitch by the Wolves.

In the fourth, Brophy’s runs climbed to nine after an RBI single by Emilio Torrez ’12 and a two-run homerun by Chris Beall ’12.

The Broncos’ 10th run to seal the mercy-win was provided by Graybill with a solo homerun in the sixth.

Nick Jewett ’12 pitched the sixth inning allowing no runs, a walk and a hit on 18 pitches.

“We did a good job capitalizing,” Mr. Succow said. “We had good at-bats and extended the lead in the third, fourth and sixth innings while making their pitchers throw more pitches.”

The Broncos’ next game is at Brophy against Hamilton April 19. The Huskies defeated the Broncos 7-5 April 6, which is Brophy’s only current regional loss this year.
