THE ROUNDUP

Two Brophy alumni were drafted in this year’s Major League Baseball draft.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim drafted Brandon Bayardi ’09 in the 36th round.

Bayardi, an outfielder, started all for years at UNLV and was a pre-season all American entering this season.

He is batting .341 with 11 home runs and 50 RBI’s this season.

The Detroit Tigers drafted Kasey Coffman ’10 in the 10th round.

As an outfielder at Arizona State, Coffman was a member of the first team all PAC-12 team as well as a two time PAC-12 performer.

Only a junior, he is batting .332 with eight home runs and 44 RBI’s

Every summer, the 30 major league baseball teams participate in the MLB draft, held this year on June 6 and June 8.

The goal of the draft is for teams to stock their minor league teams with young talent that one day might be called up to the majors.

Before this year, there were 12 former Brophy players drafted.
