“Froot” by Marina and the Diamonds

Ever come across something so fantastic that you just need to tell the world?

For me now its British indie pop singer, Marina and the Diamonds.

Don’t be confused, its not a band. It is a single person, Marina Diamandis, who calls herself Marina and the Diamonds and she recently released her third album, “Froot.”

With her last album, “Electra Heart,” Diamandis took on a more electro-pop, dance oriented music. With this project, the sound is more grounded and focused on the act of being happy.

As a whole, the album is introspective and to accomplish this unique sound, Diamandis wrote each track solely and enlisted a sole producer to get more striped, rock sound.

Each track stands out well. The entire album is fluid taking advantage of the more striped down sound.

While it does have a more rock-oriented direction, Diamandis still accomplish fantastic pop melodies.

This is best shown in “Froot,” which has a fantastic hook, one of the best I have heard in awhile.

It has a fantastic 80’s-inspired groove and is by far the most pop inspired on the record

Another standout is a personal favorite, “Blue.” It’s soft, infectious and overall enjoyable; a great listen.

Here, Diamandis combines rock with a light pop beat, and really creates a happy song while discussing a solemn topic.

The only major complaint I can find is that I wish the album was more pop than rock.

I fell in love with “Electra Heart,” the loud, overtop album which “Froot” is far from.

I just wish this album had a little more of a  jovial tone and direction, not just a philosophical one.

But for a philosophical album, Diamandis knocked it out of the park. She balances everything so well and gingerly. She really cares for the content she produces.

It really astonishes me that she can write a song all by herself while Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars need a lot of help, like five or six other writers. It is a testaments to her talent.

For a great stripped direction and introspective sound, “Froot” gets a 9.5 out of 10.
