Tech4Cuba, led by Ben Posorske ’16,  Josh Benjamin ’16 and Dean Rosales ’16,  is a club that takes used and outdated technology and sends it to schools in Cuba.

The club came about when Posorske noticed a major lack of educational supplies during his visit to Cuba with his family, he said in an email.

The club is moderated by Mrs. Catharine Stephens, and has roughly 60 members.

The club works through a foundation called Roots for Hope, which sends supplies all over the world, including Africa and Cuba. The club must send all of the items through Roots for Hope due to the embargo between the United States and Cuba.

The club collects tablets, laptops, phones and USB cords to send to schools. They accept monetary donations as well.

“The main goal is to further Cubans’ education with technology,” Posorske said.

The club has received out of state donations from Colorado and California as well as donations from Arizona.

St. John Bosco has given the biggest donation to the club so far, with a donation of 30 computer monitors.

This club differs from many other campus groups because it is almost entirely student run.

“I am really just faculty support for a completely student run endeavor, the students are the ones that deserve recognition,” Mrs. Stephens said.

The club had a car wash scheduled for April 25 with a goal of raising $2,500.

The club has already inspired many to donate.

“We are really just trying do all we can to help these kids,” Posorske said.
