No headphone jack.
This was the news that caused an uproar worldwide when Apple announced the iPhone 7
Now having the phone for over three weeks, I’ve almost completely forgot about how controversial Apple’s decision was.
The phone comes with a pair of headphones that connect with the lightning port. The concern many potential buyers had was that their old headphones would be rendered useless. However a dongle is provided that allows the user to plug in any pair of headphones.
Another concern people first had was that they would no longer be able to listen to music as well charge their phone. I’ve found this to be a non issue as I’ll just use the new dual speakers to play sound while charging.
However third party dongles are available if someone must use headphones and charge simultaneously.
As with each year’s new model, the iPhone 7 is much faster than its predecessors, rocking a new quad core Apple A10 Fusion chip. This new chip allows the phone to have 40 percent greater CPU performance compared to last year’s A9 chip.
On this new iPhone, Apple decided to add in a home button that utilizes the same Taptic Engine technology first found in the 2015 Macbook. The home button is no longer a physical button; the Taptic Engine replicates the sensation of what a traditional button might feel like.
The main positive that comes from this switch is that the user no longer has to worry about the home button breaking if the phone is dropped.
Another highly publicized feature was the iPhone 7 being water resistant. In the past users needed to be extremely careful to not get their phone wet. But now with the water resistant feature there is much more wiggle room.
It is not completely waterproof, as some water seeped into my phone after being submerged. However the phone is in perfect working order.
It would be great if the phone was waterproof, but it is definitely a great step in the right direction.
The outrage the iPhone 7 caused was completely unwarranted, as it’s a great phone that sets the foundation for many future phones.
