Red Army rebranded as The Stampede

Mr. Pete Burr ’07 has been working hard since March of 2020 in order to rebrand The Red Army as The Stampede in light of The Red Army possibly carrying negative connotations. 

The Brophy community has been known as The Red Army for over eight years, a name that was brought back by the then Director of Activities Mr. Tony Oldani back in 2012. 

“There was a little bit of controversy around The Red Army so in an attempt to be more considerate of different people who may have found it offensive the desire was to move onto a different name,” said Ms. Andrea Pierre, head of the Brophy Varsity Shop.

The Varsity shop will stop production on The Red Army shirts and merchandise, but success is clear with the rebranding as “Join The Stampede” decals are selling extremely well according to Ms Pierre

Mr. Burr, the newly designated Director of Activities, defined The Stampede as “a group moving towards a cause for a specific reason all together and I like to think that cause is community, so it is anything that brings students in closer connection together.” 

“It includes everything from watching your friend in the play to being in the play to singing in mass; all of that is joining The Stampede,” said Mr. Burr.

With the new transition from The Red Army, a new website titled “The Stampede” is now live, featuring different Brophy-oriented games and activities. Along with these,the website promotes different Brophy events such as the blood drive and “Club of the Week.” 

“I would hope this is the home for everything student life, hopefully for students it’s just one place they can go for everything student activities and know they can find the information they need,” Mr. Burr said. 

In hopes of keeping school spirit, a newly designed pep rally is coming via The Stampede.   
Mr. Burr highly encourages students to email him if they have any ideas for The Stampede, no matter the student’s class year or the idea that they want to present.
