After a lengthy decline in health, the Rev. Anton “Sam” Renna, SJ, age 79, died Aug. 9 at the Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos, Calif.

“He left an impression on all who knew him,” said Brophy President the Rev. Eddie Reese S.J. in an email. “He loved to laugh, he loved to be social but mostly he loved his students.”

Fr. Renna taught at Brophy for 45 years and retired in 2009.

Born March 11, 1934 in San Jose, Calif., Fr. Renna joined the Society of Jesus in 1952. Fr. Renna was ordained a priest in 1965 and gave his final vows in 1977 in the Brophy Chapel

“To say he was beloved by students, faculty and parents alike, is a understatement.” Fr. Reese said.
