As a Scripture and Synthesis teacher students say Mr. Jim Grindey uses his trademark slogans and powerful voice to make religion a memorable experience.

Mr. Grindey has been teaching since 1987, and used to be the Dean of Students at Seton High school.

“I wanted to become a teacher because I had great teachers in high school and college, and I wanted to pass on what they passed on to me,” Mr. Grindey said.

Mr. Grindey encourages his students to get more personally associated with not only him, but with Christ in each other.

“He’s a good teacher, he keeps the class focused but he also makes the class fun,” said scripture student Aaron Oleson ’13.

Mr. Grindey is also a coach for varsity football and was a part of the 2007 state championship.

Mr. Grindey first became interested in football when he played on his high school team. He saw his coach as a mentor, who he says gave him the opportunity later in life to coach. When he went to Creighton University, he found out that they didn’t have a football team, but instead a rugby team.

So Mr. Grindey played rugby for a few years in college, and he knew when he got out of college that he wanted to coach.

Mr. Grindey said that his greatest moments at Brophy were when Brophy football won the 2007 state championship, when the student body got together at Robby Mayasich’s ’10 funeral, while on retreats and being in his classroom, helping and watching students understanding themselves and finding their relationship with God.

“He teaches us the true meaning of every Scripture passage and he is a really great teacher and he puts meaning into every teaching he has by providing stories from his life,” said scripture student Roan Enright ’13.

Mr. Grindey continues to inspire students and he makes it his duty to make sure that students can find who they are, and how God is in all of them.

“I’ve learned that I have to trust that God is going to take care of me and that I need to accept each situation as it comes,” Mr. Grindey said.
