OCD – “The Welcome Mat”
8.0

The hip-hop duo of OCD strikes again with their new mixtape “The Welcome Mat,” which they released Aug. 16.

Listeners can download the mixtape for free here.

Philadelphia natives DeQuincy “Moosh” McRae and Oliver “Twist” Feighan return with a tape containing only six songs but it is only the first part of a two-part program.

By gaining more and more recognition on the East Coast, the pair has gained an even larger following.

They have done shows with other popular, up-and-coming rap artists like Mac Miller and Tayyib Ali that have helped them to gain a larger audience.

The high school demographic needs this refreshing take on hip-hop.

While most rap and hip-hop artists of today rhyme about money, girls and cars, OCD simply raps about all of the good times.

For instance, in their song “Take Me Back” they say, “Take me back to the days when the sun wouldn’t shine but the birds still fly like they used to.”

Their songs don’t contain expletives and are easy to connect to because of the fun nature of their style.

Moosh and Twist did not disappoint with the follow-up to their previous mixtape “Up Before the World.”

In “The Welcome Mat,” Moosh and Twist really embrace the moniker of two friends just having fun and doing what they love.

In “Take Me Back,” they sing, “They want to take my dreams, crush ’em and flatten ’em, I spit it back at ’em … but nobody, it’s me and my best friend with lifelong vision of eventually going platinum.”

Both Moosh and Twist graduated high school this past year and are now totally devoted to their music.

Their verses in “The Welcome Mat” are a perfect blend of hard-hitting and smooth delivery that makes you remember when life was simpler.

Twist delivers hard rhymes and a steady beat and then Moosh comes in with a silky flow that keeps you into the song.

The overall attitude of “The Welcome Mat” is very uplifting and nostalgic.

Personal favorites include, “Dream On” and “Take Me Back.”
