THE ROUNDUP

Raising Cane’s, a popular nationwide chicken eatery, has expanded to North Central Phoenix and is currently under construction.

The restaurant, which is just a short drive from Brophy’s campus, will soon open up. The future convenience in chicken tender consumption has Brophy students like Sean McLaine ’19 excited.

“I am very fond of chicken tenders, and the closest Cane’s is about a 20 minute drive away,” he said. “The new location will allow me to consume chicken tenders at maximum efficiency.”

Like McLaine, Quinten Argiropoulos ’19 expressed his excitement over the joint’s imminent opening.

“Me and my friends enjoy their food and will definitely go there after school once in a while,” Argiropoulos said. “It’s also nice because we get tired of going to the same places around school every week, so something new will allow us switch it up.”

Argiropoulos pointed out that the opening will lead to a decline in nearby restaurants’ business, pointing out the Georgia-based Chick-fil-A due to its shared speciality in chicken.

“It will bring up more competition due to their similarities and proximity to one another,” he added.

McLaine agreed, estimating that the new Raising Cane’s will provide competition for nearby fast food restaurants, both chicken based and non-chicken based.

“The opening of Cane’s will take some business away from nearby restaurants and eateries, but not enough to cause an ample decrease in staff or revenue,” he said.

Brophy alumnus Michael Rowe ’18 gained notoriety for his SoundCloud rap song “Canes Sauce,” in which he praises Raising Cane’s chicken, toast and most notably, sauce.

Rowe expressed both disappointment and optimism that Raising Cane’s expanded to North Central Phoenix one year after his graduation.

“It hurt that it took them so long, but I’m glad they’re paving a brighter future for local ‘Caniacs,’” he said.
