THE ROUNDUP

Three Brophy seniors signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college in Brophy’s Robson Gymnasium Nov. 15, 2018.

Tony Hendricks ’19 will make his way to Westwood, CA next year as he commits to play for the University of California Los Angeles’s golf team.

“It felt unbelievable to sign,” he said. “And to have all my family and friends there was one of the best moments of my life, because I couldn’t have done it without them.”

“To officially be a Bruin is something I have always dreamed about, and I can’t wait to get to work in Westwood,” Hendricks added.

Meanwhile, both Will Worthington ’19 and Johnny Dowse ’19 decided to continue playing baseball for the University of San Diego.

Worthington committed to the program his sophomore year and said that it was refreshing to finally put pen to paper.

“This was a day that I definitely looked up to and looked forward to for most of my high school experience,” Worthington said. “Signing that line yesterday meant a lot, and I committed myself to the university.”

“I gotta finish strong at Brophy, but I am so unbelievably blessed to know that it’s a reality,” he added.

Dowse, a catcher for Brophy baseball, said that the support he received for signing was amazing.

“I really enjoyed having my teammates, friends, coaches, and family there to support me,” he said. “Signing was a lifelong dream of me, and I am very grateful that it finally became a reality.”

Dowse added that he is looking forward to growing both behind home plate and as a person.

“I’ve had a great experience as a student at Brophy and as well as a baseball player, so I am looking forward to continuing my baseball career in college and having an opportunity to becoming a better man on and off the field,” he said.

Hendricks emphasized meeting new people as a perk of his out-of-state commitment.

“I’m looking forward to improving my golf game as well as making a lot of new friendships in California,” Hendricks said.

Worthington said that he was most looking forward to continuing his growth.

“USD will give me the tools and the ability to continue and compete and go the furthest I possibly can with baseball,” he said.
