THE ROUNDUP

Brophy picked up their first win on the road Friday Sept.1 at Westview improving their record to 1-2.

After going for two with 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Brophy beat Westview 28-27.

Marcus White ’19 had an interception and caused a fumble for Brophy’s defense.

Kicker Jackson Garcia ’19 went 2-3 on field-goals (40,42) and made all of his extra points.

Quarterback Noah Gonzales ’18 completed 17 out of 26 passes and threw for 173 yards and 3 touchdowns.

After the half Gonzales went 15 out of 17 for passes and helped lead the game winning drive against Westview.

He threw both the game winning touchdown and 2 point conversion to win the game with only 25 seconds left in the fourth Quarter.

During the last drive, Gonzales said he just wanted to stay calm.

“[I] tried to stay as calm as possible and keep the offense calm so we don’t get to hype and make any mental mistakes,” Gonzales said.

Both Gonzales and Varsity head coach Mr. Molander praised the team’s resilience coming out of halftime.

“We fought hard towards the end and [at] halftime we made some adjustments and found some holes in their defense,” Gonzales said.

Mr. Molander also echoed what Gonzales said.

“We stayed strong mentally and I’m really proud of not only our players but our coaching staff [as well],” Mr. Molander said.

After their first win, Gonzales and Mr. Molander said they both believe they can use the win to help carry the team to more wins.

“We are on the right track now,”Mr. Molander said. “This was the shot in the arm that we needed.”

Gonzales also said, “[There are] many more wins to come.”

Brophy hopes that their momentum carries on into next week as they travel to Highland on Sept. 8 and try to get their second win.
