We should embrace technology

Technology is a part of life that needs to be embraced.

All around the school, students are texting, calling, tweeting and emailing along with all the work that they do on their Tablets.

Brophy is a school that is extremely technology friendly. Students get to use computers during class and cell phones on campus.

However, many students end up thinking that too much technology is a detriment.

So, is too much technology a bad thing?

Imagine a world without cell phones, television and computers. Life would be pretty difficult for people from our generation. Or at least pretty bland.

Technology makes everything easier, especially communication.

Brophy System Administrator Mr. Mark Pettit is a supporter of technology at Brophy

Mr. Pettit said he believes Brophy’s incorporation of technology on the campus is a good thing.

“They’re going to be using technology for the rest of their lives and there’s no better time to get used to being responsible users,” Mr. Pettit said of current students.

There are positives and negatives to having Tablets. But, it’s the responsibility that makes the difference.

Students must use their Tablets responsibly. This means using the Tablets for school only and not gaming.

“Obviously the negative is the distractions that it creates, but the positive is the learning experience that they will be using technology the rest of their lives and part of that is learning the responsibility,” Mr. Pettit said.

According to Mr. Pettit, technology is a tool that is used to enhance the performance of students and make life easier. As opposed to having teachers check out computer labs, students have computers in front of them at all times.

“This is a tool used for school work, and I find it to be a productive tool,” Mr. Pettit said.
