Quinn Cothern ’27 shows that you don’t always need to play to have the largest impact on the field. As a senior, Cothern is just like many other students but with a passion for mentorship, a love for football, and a unique drive to help coach the next generation of football players.

For the past two years, Cothern has served as a coach for the freshman football team, and now coaches sophomores as well. Most high schoolers would want to be in the next big play on game day, but Cothern was calling from the sideline, helping support his team with his knowledge and awareness. Having a good awareness of how Cothern could continue to be around the sport of football, he turned to focusing on the mental and tactical aspect of the game.

Cothern said, “I like football a lot; I always liked the strategy of football.” Cothern is dedicated to leaving his mark by assisting younger guys in the sport and helping them grow. Emphasizing being a team player both on and off the field. 

His dedication to game planning pays off, too. One of his proudest and most memorable moments out of his 4-year career here at Brophy was being on the sidelines watching his starting quarterback throw for 400 yards in a single game, a direct result of the strategies Cothern helped put together. 

Cothern enjoys lifting weights outside of running practices, and he has very high academic standards; his goal this year is to get all A’s. He has his eyes on the Midwest now and his sights set on the University of Nebraska beyond high school. 

However, his play calls are not what make him unique, but his character. Through Cothern, his greatest legacy at Brophy isn’t the games he helped win; it’s the young athletes he helped along the way.
