Students react to Arizona SB1070, immigration reform

  I have news for the Brophy students and faculty. You don’t speak for many of the students, parents, and grandparents who attend or support BCP. Any faculty member who uses students as pawns to protest should be dismissed. Many of you need to read the Bible again because it clearly mentions how we are to follow the law of the land. What you have done is tried to insult many of the immigrants who came to this country legally. They followed a process. Shame on the faculty and the leaders at Brophy who allowed this.

  To a few of the morons at Brophy that support the bill, perhaps you need to reread your history to understand that there is a process,namely the law, that is in place to help people become U.S. citiziens.

  JP, I respect your opinion, but unfortunately you are not looking at it from the other perspective. I understand your frustration with the people against the bill but I need to tell you a few things so you see the other side of the matter. First off, the Bible (Exodus 22:21), “Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.” Yes, Scripture asks us to follow the law of the land, but one must understand that if the law harmfully affects people, we must fight to fix the law.
  Secondly, you don’t understand the conditions in which people who enter illegally go through in their countries. Yes, there are impatient people who just want to go the U.S. and can get in easily because immigration doesn’t pay much attention to them (and some have the money to pay for expenses), but in other cases, it is nearly impossible to go through the whole process. I know it takes time and money to gain a working visa or residency, and some people don’t have either because their families depend on their pay which in some cases is little. For example, there are many people in El Salvador who receive an education worth of having a high paying job, but since professional jobs are so scarce, they have take any job they can get (taxi driver, cook, cleaner, etc.). The only way they can get make a better living is here, which is unfortunate that they can’t live in the place the knew. Yet, there are some who never had the opportunity to receive this type of education and come to the U.S. because they can get jobs that they are willing to do that CITIZENS of the U.S. aren’t willing to do.
  And the fact that you mention that faculty members used students as pawns for this is absolutely sad to here. I can name twenty people off of the top of my head who are against the bill who are Brophy students or other students in high school. Brophy allows us to speak our thoughts and so this is what they were doing. I apologize on behalf if you found this to be offensive.
  I know you are probably tired of reading, but let me leave you with and a challenge. The challenge is to ask legal citizens who immigrated to the U.S. if they feel offended that Brophy did this. If you find someone who found it offensive, let me know and I will formally apologize to them on behalf of those who did this.
