DiMino takes first place in annual Poetry Out Loud competition

Inside of the Brophy Blackbox Theater Feb. 1-3 and then again Feb. 9, students strolled up to a lone microphone to recite a poem that they choose in the annual Poetry Out Loud competition.

The students who won that contest were John DiMino ’12, who placed first in the contest, with Ryan Frankel ’14 taking second and Conner Wareing ’12 placing third.

Reciters rejoice in annual poetry contest

Students participate in judged poetry readings

The silence hung palpably in the Black Box Theatre; all eyes fell upon the seven finalists.

As the reciters strode up to the platform one by one, the words of Shakespeare and Hughes broke the deafening quiet.

The final round of this year’s Poetry Out Loud Feb. 9 showcased the best poetry performances Brophy had to offer.

Cavnar-Lewandowski wins poetry contest and will go to state

Walking into the Black Box Theater for the first annual Poetry Out Loud contest, a poetry enthusiast might expect to see just a handful of students.

This was not the case in January when, there were 30-40 Brophy students crowded into the Black Box Theater.

Brophy’s first ever Poetry Out Loud poem recitation contest took place on Jan. 20 and Jan. 21.
