THE ROUNDUP

As well as being beautifully produced and designed, “The Little Mermaid” sought to attract past alums and their families to join in the celebration of Xavier’s 75th anniversary as a Catholic Prep School.

“Since it’s Xavier’s 75th anniversary we wanted to entice the alums to bring their children and grandchildren back to see a great show,” said director Janice Robillard. She continues to say “Working with all these wonderful kids, has proven to be the highpoint for me. We’ve got the most talented kids and everybody works so hard. We just have a lot fun together, and it’s really great to put something forward and share it with an audience.”

“We focused heavily on the props this year. The whole show in general is very light intensive and does a good job of displaying the different atmospheres and perspectives,” said crew member Liam Nelson ’20. “Not to mention the air cannons and massive projector which does a magnificent job in giving you the feeling of being underwater.”

As well as being ornately designed the play received great reviews from many of the viewers who watched the show.

“I liked how the actors interpreted their characters. They really brought their characters to life and made the audience feel like they were a part of the production,” said viewer Janet Macias ’20.

“The Little Mermaid, in my opinion, was really good. From the music, to the costumes, and pretty much how everything was portrayed was really good. Even though not everything from the movie was in there, I thought it all flowed, and came together very nicely,” said viewer Lily Smyth ’21.

“I think it went really well, it was one of our best shows in terms of the technical aspect, and it looked really cool. The actor performances were great, we had a lot of good singers, and overall it was a fun show to watch.” said Nelson

‘The Little Mermaid’ was performed on Oct. 11th, 12th, and 14th in the Virginia G. Piper Performing Arts Center at Xavier.
