Brophy Rugby is chasing the Division 2 championship after facing a challenging season and losing its head coach.
Despite having faced the second-ranked team in the country, the RFC Raptors. The team has secured a spot in their out-of-state playoff opener; sophomore Jackson Keeler ‘28 noted that they fought hard, winning one game and narrowly losing the other, outperforming expectations. And now they’re preparing for their championship on Friday against the Tucson Eclipse.
Several players have been crucial to the team’s success throughout the season, including captains Carter Weyrauch ‘26, the starting scrumhalf or link between the forwards and backs, and Logan Golden ‘26, an 8, a physically dominant back-row forward. Both captains have been vital leaders for the squad. Other notable players are Cole Patriquin ‘26, a lock who has been a crucial forward. And other players who have been consistent scorers.
The team faced significant adversity after losing their head coach, requiring players to adapt and communicate independently. Keeler remarked, “It slowed us down a little bit in the beginning, but the team and our players have been very adaptable and have still been able to work together, communicate, and execute.” This resilience has allowed the squad to maintain its execution in the playoffs despite the coaching change.
With morale back at a high, the team is focused on winning the Division 2 championship. As Keeler put it, “We’re back up, and we’re ready to win.”
