Brophy running back Marche Dennard ’13 is the fourth Dennard brother to play football at Brophy.

It goes to show that football is in Dennard’s blood.

“I have always been a part of football,” Dennard said. “I’ve been playing football since the fourth grade. My dad, my

grandpa, my uncles all played football. It is a part of my family. It is like second nature for the Dennards to play football.”

Marche’s older brother Josh Dennard ’11 played offense and defense for the Broncos during his time on the field.

Unfortunately for Dennard, he will not likely see a chance to play until the third week in the season against Red Mountain due to a fractured left foot he suffered over the summer.

However, Dennard’s injury does not prevent him from being an effective teammate on the sidelines.

“I think I am a pretty good teammate,” Dennard said. “I try to stay quiet because I do not really like talking. I like to lead by example, but this year I have started talking a lot more and being more vocal.”

Wide receiver Jordan Melick ’12 also views Dennard as a positive teammate.

“As a teammate, he makes practice more enjoyable,” Melick said.

“As a team, we’ve become really excited because we can’t wait until he comes back. He is another weapon we will have,” he said.

Now a more vocal teammate, Dennard gives advice to his fellow running backs, and receives the same in return.

“I give advice to all of the running backs: (Andrew) Simon ’12, Will Edwards ’14 and D’amani Grayer ’13,” he said.

“We all give each other feedback,” he said. “If we messed up or if we saw something that they did not see, we would tell each other.”

One of Dennard’s goals for the season is to integrate the newer members of the varsity squad into the brotherhood of Brophy football.

“We want to become closer as a team and as a family,” Dennard said.
