Since its debut in 1977, the groundbreaking “Star Wars” franchise has been an iconic within the film industry.

The series ended in 2005 with the “Episode III: Revenge of the Sith,” which led into the previously released fourth, fifth and sixth installments, released decades earlier.

In September 2011, director George Lucas announced to the public that the series was to be re-released, beginning in 2012.

Each film or “episode” will be re-released annually, from “Episode I: The Phantom Menace” this year and concluding with “Episode VI: Return of the Jedi” in 2017.

The revamping commenced on midnight Feb. 10 with “The Phantom Menace” in 3D in theatres throughout the country.
