Riggs Lennon ’13 scored a hat trick and had an assist in Brophy’s 6-0 win over the Chaparral Firebirds.

“It was great to score for the team and I think the team played well to give me chances to score,” Lennon said.

Chaparral’s best chance of the game came after a long throw in led to a close range header but was batted by the outstretched goalkeeper Phil Mourikes ’14.

Brophy went up 1-0 in the 25th minute after Ryan Grotjohn ’13 drove a corner to a near post and Lennon made a run to the near post to deflect the corner past the keeper.

The half ended 1-0.

Just 45 seconds after the start of the second half, Grotjohn floated a through ball over the defense to Lennon who beat the keeper with his footwork and tapped in his second goal into an empty net to make it 2-0.

Six minutes after the game’s second goal, Cesar Alcantara ’13 passed to Adam Mosharrafa ’14 who played the ball to Colin Zaccagnio ’13, who struck the ball from 10 yards past the keeper for his first goal of the season and the third goal of the game.

The scoring resumed in the 50th minutewhen Lennon produced a goal with some individual work to beat the defense.

Lennon quickly chipped the ball over the keeper from 25 yards for his third goal of the game and fourth on the season.

Lennon was involved in Brophy’s fifth goal when he ran down the right side in the 54th minute and crossed to Mosharrafa who kicked the ball past the keeper for his first goal of the season.

Brophy’s sixth and final goal came in the 65th minute from a Clay Kiggin’s ’14 cross that landed at Tyler Dial’s ’14 feet. Dial who was able to beat the keeper and net his first goal of the season for the Broncos.

“ I think we possessed ball way better than we did against Tolleson, and really played with a calmness that really emphasizes all that this team can achieve,” said team manager Scott Levine ’13.

Levine said he admired his team for their performance.

“Honestly I think this game shows how well rounded we are. I don’t think we need to work on anything,” Levine said.

The Broncos defense has yet to give up a goal this season and look to continue their run.

Lennon said he was happy to score for the team but is striving for a personal achievement this season.

“I’m glad I got a hat trick tonight but I wish I scored more. I’m not on pace to score 80 goals this season, which is something I’m striving for,” Lennon said.
