THE ROUNDUP
Five Broncos scored in double digits in a 17-point Brophy blowout against the Chandler Wolves on Jan. 26.
The five were Ryan Milne ’10 (12 points), Chris Pierre ’11 (15 points), Sai Tummala ’11 (11 points), James Harper ’12 (15 points) and John LaVanway ’10 (13 points).
In the first quarter, the Broncos hit seven shots. However, the Wolves stayed close making five baskets. The score at the end of the quarter had Brophy leading 14-11.
During the second, the Broncos began to pull away with a 25-15 scoring run. At halftime, the score was Brophy 39, Chandler 26.
The third quarter saw the Brophy lead grow. The Broncos scored 24 while the Wolves scored 20 points.
With only the fourth left to go, the score was Brophy 63, Chandler 46.
In the fourth quarter, the Broncos broke their season-high record of points per game with a final tally of 81-64. Their previous highest total was 60 points in a loss to Mesquite.
Milne ’10 said he was happy to see how the team played well all around.
“Everyone was moving the ball and everyone got open tonight,” he said.
“It was a great job for every member of the team,” Milne added. “When I drive the ball, it opens up spots for the other guys to score at. Even other players got me open for a couple of shots. I absolutely loved the way we played tonight.”
Coach Mr. Tony Fuller said the win was in part because of team leadership.
“We shared the ball as a team and shot a high percentage,” Mr. Fuller said. “When you have a high shooting percentage, the more likely you are to score 81 points in a game.”
The Broncos will return home Friday, Jan. 29 to take on the Mesa Jackrabbits in a grudge game due to an earlier season loss.
