‘Olympus has Fallen’ exceeds expectation

By Nick May ’13

“Olympus has Fallen” 7.5 out of 10
Starring: Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman

“Olympus has Fallen” is so far this years best shoot em’ up movie.

Granted, there is not much competition.

Gerard Butler plays the main character, Mike Banning, who is an ex secret service agent.

“Olympus has Fallen” is a story of Banning seeking redemption for past mistakes. He redeems himself and then some

If you can get past how ridiculously easy the White House is taken then this movie is one of the best of the year.

If “Olympus has Fallen” was a real movie, Banning would be the greatest hero in the history of United States.

It left me with an incredible sense of pride for America and I had to fight back the urge to chant “USA! USA!” in the theatre.

While this movie surely won’t win an Oscar, it still has better acting than one would think.

I walked in thinking this would be just another corny shooter movie with cliched catch phrases and massive explosions. It had both of these, but I was surprised by the quality of acting it had.

Butler makes the movie with his wonderful one liners and overall solid performance.

The film also has it fair share of gore that somewhat detracts from the overall movie. If you are sensitive to blood and I gore I would warn you not to see this film.

The special effects in the film are pretty average but it leaves you with haunting images like the Washington monument being brought down by an airplane and the White house in ruins.

I would recommend this movie to any normal movie goer who enjoys “Die Hard” or “Rambo” type movies.
