“I thought we played pretty well, Hamilton is a great team…we just made a few key mistakes and couldn’t get the win” said Brophy wide receiver and cornerback Isaiah Oliver ’15 about the Broncos’ Sept. 6 26-9 loss against Hamilton.

On Hamilton’s second possession, Oliver intercepted a pass in Huskie territory giving the Broncos the ball at the Hamilton four-yard line. However, on the second play of the Brophy drive, the Broncos fumbled the snap giving the ball back to Hamilton deep in their own territory.

Hamilton then took the ball 96 yards for the first score of the game. Their drive consisted of a 46-yard completion and short runs by Hamilton running back Tyrell Smith. S

mith ran the ball in for a one-yard touchdown run. After making the extra point, Hamilton led 7-0 late in the first quarter.

Brophy responded with a scoring drive of its own. The drive started with a 17-yard completion from Brian Woodward ’14 to Tight End Michael Ward ’14.

Running back Will Edwards ’14 carried the ball 18 yards into field goal territory. Brophy capitalized with a 31-yard field goal by Phil Mourikes ’14.

Hamilton would have another long drive to add to their lead. It consisted of a few first down completions and more runs by Smith.

Hamilton was able to score a touchdown on a four-yard run by Smith. They took the ball 80 yards on the drive and made their lead 14-3 over the Broncos. This was the score going into the half.

On Brophy’s second drive of the third quarter, the Broncos started with the ball on their own 49 yard line.

Led by two 20-yard completions from Woodward to sophomore running back Ryan Velez ’15, the Broncos were able to score their first offensive touchdown of the year on a 16-yard pass from Woodward to Streetor Bates ’15.

Brophy tried for a two point conversion, but did not get it. The score was Hamilton 14-9.

Hamilton would score later in the half on a three-play drive. Hamilton scored on another one-yard run that came after a 75-yard completion. They would miss the extra point attempt to make the score 20-9.

With just seconds left in the game Hamilton scored another touchdown. This time, it came off of a 15-yard completion.

Hamilton would again miss the extra point making the score 26-9. This would be the final score of the game.

“This game will make us better,” said head coach Mr. Scooter Molander of his team’s performance.

The Broncos will hope to learn from the game and move on to play Peoria Centennial on Thursday, Sept. 12 at Phoenix College.
