THE ROUNDUP
After finishing last season with a 10-4 record, the football team is aiming to put to use its senior leadership and improvement from a long offseason.
The addition of a new defensive coordinator, Mr. Thurmond Moore, brings more experience at the professional and collegiate levels to the Broncos defense after coaching at Chandler High School last year.
“Thurmond Moore is a great defensive coordinator and a great person,” said head coach Mr. Scooter Molander. “He’s great to work with, he’s great with the kids and he brings a wealth of knowledge from having coached in the NFL for many years and college football. I think as a staff we’ve all learned from him.”
Seniors Connor Murphy, Dante Diaz-Infante and Walker Adams, who is returning from a knee injury that sidelined him all last season, will anchor Brophy’s defense in their first game of the regular season at Sandra Day O’Connor Aug. 21.
“Ultimately I think we’re going to play tough Bronco defense and run to the football and get a lot of three and outs and turnovers,” Mr. Molander said.
After starting last season off 1-3, Molander said that he would like to start this season better.
“I’d like to see improvement overall in special teams, just more consistency I would like to see there, and I would love to start off the season in good fashion,” he said.
Players said they expect senior leadership to play a key role in the development and progression of the team’s success during the season.
“I think senior leadership is huge to helping us win, and I think that senior leadership helping the juniors who do play will be big because then they get the experience and leadership,” said Bailey Hopkins ’16.
“The strengths of our team are our unity. We are a close team of brothers all working towards a common goal,” said wide receiver Ben Posorske ’16. “We are strong because we are committed to getting better every day.”
Brophy’s first home game is against Liberty Sept. 4.
