This year Brophy purchased a new house for the Alumni Service Corps, recent alumni who are doing service by teaching, coaching, and helping all around Brophy.
With a new house on Pierson St, this year’s members have transformed a house into a thriving home with community, service, and brotherhood.
The living dynamic in the ASC house is already strong with this year’s members, Mr. Connor Roe ’22, Mr. Jackson Moran ’21, Mr. Declan Quinn ’22, and Mr. Giovanni Briseno Paredes ’22.
When asked about life in the house, Mr. Briseno Paredes replied, “The first couple weeks, it’s like seeing how much everybody’s changed since we were here, because we all kind of knew of each other but we were all from different groups, but we’ve definitely grown closer.”
They have gotten into a habit of playing Mario Kart every night and have bonded through that as well as reconnecting with their old friends from Brophy.
Having spent his time in an IU fraternity, Mr. Quinn compares it to the ASC saying, “It was actually really nice to be with a group of 4 guys who really have their stuff together and really care about not only themselves but they also care a lot about other people, which has been really helpful for me especially.”
The new house is distinguished by its unique energy and community focus, as said by Fr. Simon Zachary SJ ’01, “They have a pretty diverse set of interests and academic backgrounds. They’re excited to dig into the work, excited to be back at Brophy, excited to help out in various ways. Some of them really want to learn more about their faith, which can vary from year to year, but I would say that feels pretty pronounced this year.”
This year’s members reside in the third version of the ASC house on Pierson St.
The property includes 4 bedrooms, a pool, a grill, 2 living rooms, and 2 patios and just underwent major renovations to include an added bathroom, bringing the total to 2.5 bathrooms along with two full upstairs bedrooms.
The 3 pillars of Alumni Service Corp are community, service, and faith, and according to Mrs. Kristin Venburg, they are doing very well with these ideals, “The current group are hard workers. They really work together as a community, which is part of the pillars of Alumni Service Corp…they share a car, sharing meals together, and this group has really latched onto that and groups who prioritize community have a better experience.”
