Football season creates busy newsroom too

tory. For another school, it’s the sound of a heartbreaking defeat.

But for journalists and photographers, it’s a reminder that they need to race to the field to get interviews, pull together stats and edit their best photos from the night.

There is more than meets the eye when it comes to covering a football game.

In The Roundup newsroom, it is the responsibility of Sport’s Editors Michael Moroney ’13 and Erik Meyer ’14 to make sure that at least one journalist and photographer can go to each major sporting event.

At each game the reporter must take stats, Tweet live score updates and get postgame interviews, while the photographer hustles up and down the sidelines to take the perfect shots.

After each game, the reporter must then calculate all the stats, go through interviews and then write the story, usually the same night.

Once the story is written and edited, it gets posted online within a day or two after the game.

This year it has been a very hectic because there have been three football games within 10 days.

Moroney and Meyer along with new reporter Christian Guerithault ’14 and returning contributor George Liddy ’14 have done a fantastic job at making sure that these games get covered, and covered well. Because of them, the Brophy community who can’t attend games can read about what happened and receive live score updates.

Our photographers also deserve credit for capturing all the moments of the game, big and small. Meyer, Dalton Radcliffe ’13, David Meyers ’13, Ben Liu ’15 and Carter Radcliffe ’11 dedicated their time to visually documenting the games.

I, along with the rest of the staff and adviser Mr. Mica Mulloy ’99, send a hardy kudos to these journalists and photographers for giving up their Friday nights and dedicating it to continue to help make The Roundup the state’s best high school paper.
