The Broncos fell to Mountain Pointe 13-12 Nov. 19, knocking Brophy out of the playoffs in the second round for the second year in a row.

The game started well for Brophy when the Pride fumbled the opening kickoff and it was recovered by Jake Faust ’12 of the Broncos on the the 30-yard line.

After a Fred Gammage ’12 third down conversion pass to Matt Auran ’13 for 23 yards, Josh Dennard ’11 punched it in for a touchdown.

After a false start penalty, the Broncos missed the extra point, making the score 6-0 with 9:37 left in the first quarter.

With about 57 seconds left in the first quarter, Gammage threw an interception to senior defensive back Izzy Marshall for a 34-yard return for a touchdown, to make it 7-6 Mountain Pointe.

The Pride hit a 25-yard field goal with 39 seconds left in the first half to go up 10-6.

Brophy got all the way to Mountain Pointe’s 41-yard line before Gammage was sacked and time ran out in the half.

Devon Allen ’13 was stripped on the Broncos’ first offensive play of the second half, which led to a 44-yard field goal by Mountain Pointe, making the score 13-6 with 9:20 left in the third.

Mountain Pointe missed a 53-yard field goal with 10:28 left in the game and Brophy took over at their own 20-yard line.

An 80-yard drive was capped off with a 13-yard scramble for a touchdown by Gammage but the extra point was blocked and the Pride were still winning, 13-12.

The Broncos forced a fumble from Mountain Pointe quarterback Kyle Faunce, which Danny Riggs ’11 recovered.

This gave Brophy the ball at Mountain Pointe’s 35-yard line with 2:18 left in the game.

However, Casey Skowron ’11 missed a 46-yard field goal with 1:30 left in the game.

The Pride then ran out the clock.

Gammage finished 11-19 with 101 yards and two interceptions as well as a 13-yard rushing touchdown.

Marche Dennard ’13 had 64 rushing yards.

Josh Dennard ’11 had 35 rushing yards and a touchdown as well as 31 receiving yards.

Brophy had three turnovers, two in the second half, but coach Mr. Scooter Molander said they were not a huge factor.

“Our defense played excellent, we’re six inches from winning that football game,” he said referring to the late field goal attempt that missed just to the right.

Despite all the hardships Brophy has endured this season, Mr. Molander was very proud of his team.

“Basically we’re down to our fourth quarterback right now and I’m very proud of what we’ve done this season considering all the injuries and all the people that quit on this program. I’m very proud of what our guys did,” Mr. Molander said.

The Pride will take on Hamilton Dec. 3 in the semifinals.
