Brophy has a reputation for scholarly excellence in central Phoenix so it is no surprise that no other high school has an event like the Summit on Human Dignity, where we take time from our studies to express a much higher cause.
Though the Summit is always a highlight, this year’s topic of food was what I believe to be a harder hitting subject than last year’s focus on the economy.
We were shown how diet related disease has been on the rise, as our American meal standards decreased in quality.

Wrestling was first devised long ago to be a test of strength and mind between two people, providing a friendly and competitive way to settle differences or to just have fun.
The wrestling team, coached by Mr. Brad Frank and Mr. Jose Leyba ’94, takes part in this competitive experience in tournaments and matches weekly as well as during daily practice.
10 of the 12 varsity members who wrestled at sectionals were invited to state, a prestigious invitation for the most dedicated players.

The neighborhood around Brophy could look different in the near future if a condominium tower proposed in nearby lots receives city approval.
The condominiums would be built north of Brophy on the corner of Central and Pearson avenues, just south of the M&I Bank building. The property currently houses vacant buildings along Central with an empty lot behind those.

2010 has been full of many exciting new things in gaming technology: the reveal of the Nintendo 3DSi, PlayStation Move and Microsoft Kinect to just name a few.
But all of these gaming devices would have little to no value without their games.
Games are what sell the console and this article will explore the five best games of 2010.

Working in the theater shop, sweaty and covered in sawdust, is a group of artists who often do not get as much attention as others.
Among these artists is the amateur builder Kieran Martin ’13.

The beat heavy sounds of contemporary music are known for being the fuel that drives Brophy’s dances.
While no one can call the dances bad, not everyone likes the hip-hop and techno of popular culture, or at least all the time.
Some people like rock, some like reggae, and some like ska.
The Aquabats is a band based out of Orange County, Calif., that has a longstanding reputation among ska listeners.

It’s easy to spot the glazed over eyes, colorfully flickering screens and furtive glances that seem to infect the numerous students playing games in class.
The three main reasons students receive Justice Under God, Brophy’s equivalent of detention, are for breaking procedure, dress code violations and class misconduct. However, the introduction of Tablets into the classroom has also given rise to another common reason for JUG: Inappropriate Computer Usage, or ICUs.
Freshmen Carter Hale ’14, Eric Fishman ’14 and Joe Postorius ’14 all agreed that many students engage in inappropriate computer use, and that while students get caught about 20 percent of the time, many teachers “just don’t care.” They said that students who get ICUs usually don’t stop playing games; ICUs simply “make them more careful next time.”

Hockey is not a sport talked about much on the Brophy campus, but this year the team believes that their recognition will rise.
The varsity team is off to a 3-1 start as of Oct. 15, and members said they think this is definitely a sign of things to come.
Mr. Lane McShane ’82, the Hockey Club moderator, said “we are looking the best in years,” and that “our puck control has really improved.”
