‘Iron Man 2’ Movie Review: ‘Iron’ has lost some of its luster, but continues to shine

As of May 7, the summer movie season has officially begun, and Tony Stark is the first one out the gate.

Early in ‘Iron Man 2’ there is a scene where Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) drops into his own Stark Expo and declares “It’s good to be back!”

This scene eerily imitates reality; anticipation has been building for this movie ever since the original came out in 2008.

‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ throws sci-fi out for comedy

“Hot Tub Time Machine” is, at its core, a silly, sophomoric romp that shouldn’t be too closely examined.

The movie tells the tale of four friends – three 40-year-old bosom buddies and a 20-year-old nephew of one of the characters – who are sent back to the 80s after an energy drink is spilled on a unique temperature-control device in their hotel room’s hot tub.

The story is more about a zany adventure shared by three characters who want to correct all the mistakes that they made in the past and one character – the kid – who just wants to go back home. Thrown into the mix are the characters’ past girlfriends, and a mysterious time machine repairman who doesn’t get enough screen time to really seem significant.

Release the Kraken on ‘Titans’ for poor story and script

Greek mythos has always taken a place in pop culture, whether it is with video games like the “God of War” series or movies such as the recently released “Clash of the Titans.”

There is a good reason for this; Greek mythology is incredibly interesting. Its stories often intertwine gods and humans, and have the moody gods dangle their human puppets to provide for their every whim.

“Titans” is a remake of the original 1981 film, which is mostly known for the Ray Harryhausen special effects that look very cheap by today’s standards.

Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ takes moviegoers down a new rabbit hole

Where can you play crochet with flamingos as putters and hedgehogs as balls, or have tea with a mad hatter and his equally batty talking animal friends?

Only in Wonderland, but there’s no need to fall down a rabbit hole to get there. Director Tim Burton brought Alice Kingsley and the magical world of the time-honored classic “Alice in Wonderland” to theaters Friday, March 5.

A sequel to the 1951 Disney animation, the live-action remake centers on as now 19 year-old Alice, played by Mia Wasikowska, who suffers from continual nightmares of grinning cats and blue caterpillars from her previous trip to Wonderland.

Breathtaking ‘Avatar’ makes up for weak story with spectacle

Coming in among waves of speculation, “Avatar” has finally arrived in theaters.

Director James Cameron supposedly sank over $300 million into this project that he says will change cinema forever.

All of this talk has created a backlash, and it makes sense considering the trailers are somewhat underwhelming and the story seems suspiciously familiar.

Elementary, my dear Watson, but enjoyable nonetheless

Robert Downey Jr. is on fire right now.

He was always a critically acclaimed actor but after his starring role in “Iron Man,” he has become an A-list star.

His latest role places him in the shoes of Detective Sherlock Holmes, a name that is well known in pop and literary culture.

However, this latest take on the trench coat wearing hero is quite different from how he is normally portrayed. But is that a good thing?

Dark depressing ‘Road’ creates great atmosphere

Realistically what would happen in a post-apocalyptic world?

Would humanity try to repopulate the Earth? Or would it slowly dissolve into on a desolate void?

The new Cormac McCarthy adaptation, “The Road”, imagines a post-apocalyptic world that might be the closest to the truth. Although this realism is often times disturbing and depressing to watch; it creates a dystopian world truly unforgettable.

“The Road” follows two characters, “the Man” (Viggo Mortensen) and “the Boy” (Kodi Smit-McPhee) trying to survive after an unexplained event has thrown off the balance of the world with no hope of it ever being regained.

‘The Fourth Kind’ proves to be unbelievable as based-on-true-story flick

“The Fourth Kind” may seem like just another PG-13 thriller movie, but it can leave viewers questioning the supernatural.

There is something strange going on in the quaint town of Nome, Alaska. Dr. Abigail Emily Tyler has made it her mission to try and figure out what is wrong, but the truth ends up costing her more than she would have ever expected.

The movie is supposedly based off actual audio and visual recordings, as well as an extensive account by Dr. Abigail Emily Tyler, who is played by actress Milla Jovovich. The film includes clips of Dr. Tyler as herself being interviewed by director Olatunde Osunsanmi as well as in clips of “paranormal experiences.”
