First Down: Running back trio works to perfection

Brophy’s three running backs shared carries against Sandra Day O’Connor Sept. 16, and each scored in the Bronco’s 50-0 victory.

Coming in to Brophy’s 50-0 victory, sophomore running back D’Amani Grayer ’13 led the team with 287 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

First Down: Defense shuts down opposing offense

On Friday Aug. 26, opening their 2011 season against Mountain Ridge, the Broncos locked down the Mountain Lions from the first drive to the very last in a 32-0 shutout.

Mountain Ridge mustered up only one trip to the red zone, one that originated when a punt bounced off a Brophy blocker and was recovered by the Mountain Lions on the 18 yard line. They would drive to the one yard line but a costly five yard penalty on fourth down and goal forced them to settle for a 29-yard field goal attempt that sailed wide.

The longest play from scrimmage the Mountain Lions had was a 14-yard pass in the third quarter.

The last time the Brophy Broncos played at Hamilton High School, which was 2008, Brophy was shut out 10-0.

Two years later Brophy returned to Hamilton and was shut out again, this time by a score of 27-0 on Oct 22.

Brophy (4-4 overall, 2-2 Fiesta) had an opportunity early in the second quarter to score.
