Robotics team takes on state championships

The Broncobots are constructing a robot to compete in some of the largest state competitions as well as Las Vegas, and they have some of the largest membership to date. They most recently competed at the FRC competition on Oct. 28, and they were invited to compete at the state championship.

“During COVID we lost a lot of people, and there weren’t as many students to transition the skills down. This year we learned a lot, and we began to compete at that high level of robotics again,” said Sameer Godbole ’23.

The team also works with 30 Loyola students to create robots for its competitions. The Broncobots have enough members to compete in four separate divisions around the state, and they expect to compete in a larger regional competition in Las Vegas in April.

Students disassemble robots from past competitions in a room with their medals and trophies in the Innovation Commons. This room houses parts of the past robots as well as the Brophy t-shirt cannon robot.

Club supervisors Mr. Kevin Elinski and Mr. Andy Mazzolini oversaw students launching t-shirts into the crowd at the homecoming game. The robotics team made a mobile t-shirt cannon for rallies and games on campus.

The Broncobots took home a trophy after their first big competition of the year. The team competed in an FRC competition on Oct. 28 taking home some medals for their success.
