Brophy’s Varsity football is off to an impressive start this season, with a 3-1 overall record, winning two out of three home games and winning their only road game. While the offense has definitely contributed to their success, it’s their defense that has truly backed that strong start.

The statistics alone tell the story of Brophy’s solid defense. In their first four games of the season, they have a total of nine interceptions, 24 tackles for loss, nine sacks, 13 passes defended, one blocked punt, and even a blocked field goal. These are numbers of a true rock solid defense.

Some standout players in this defense include Brandon Byrne ’24 who was been an incredible force on the defensive line and has already notched four sacks this season, Cree Thomas ’25 and Jack Sebald ’24 who are two defensive backs with impressive ball hawking abilities, have three interceptions each, Marlon Colbert ’24 who has two interceptions of his own, and Bastian Vanden Bosch ’26 who has shown incredible versatility and has recorded two sacks lining up as both a defensive end and an outside linebacker.

One key number that demonstrates Brophy’s defensive dominance throughout the first four weeks of the season is 20.75. That is the average number of points that Brophy’s defense is allowing per game. This number shows their ability to limit their opponents scoring chances, proving that their defense is great at both preventing and creating turnovers.

As the season continues, Brophy’s football team hopes to maintain this defensive excellence and build on their strong beginning to the season. Brophy really has the potential to make a great impact in their league and division with this talented defensive unit. Brophy’s students and  football fans anticipate what the rest of this season will bring for them.
