The best lesson anyone at Brophy could learn is to pursue their passion. Life is full of curiosities and distractions, and Brophy offers every opportunity for students to put more on their plates, but it can often feel overwhelming. I encourage you to take a step back and look at what you do to find those activities that truly make you happy.
As a member of The Roundup, I was able to find something that makes me excited to get up to go to school every day, and I can’t think of a better way to remember Brophy as I leave.
For the freshmen trying to find their place here, I hope that you take advantage of the broad experiences that Brophy can offer, but I also hope that you will latch onto something and find your niche without worrying about not doing enough.
For the sophomores, take this time to evaluate the last two years as you enter the halfway point of your time at high school and ask yourself if what you do is worthy of your time.
And for the juniors entering their last year here, I encourage you to truly become lost in that one subject or activity that excites you when you get up in the morning. Make the most of your last year spending time with what drives you to get through each day.
The Roundup has been one of the most worthwhile experiences during my time here, and the friendships I’ve made and lessons I’ve learned are responsible for the person I am as I enter college.
When I look back on my time here in ten years, I want to remember the things that I loved and not regret a second of the time I spent. Being a reporter opened me up to a world I wouldn’t have otherwise experienced or known about, and I am so grateful for that.
Although finding your place takes time and mistakes, I hope that you all can remember Brophy as the community you could bond with around an idea you loved when you leave just as I will when I remember my late nights in the sound studio or lunches spent in the newsroom.
