Mr. Kyle Vanden Bosch has recently been announced to be taking over as head coach of the Strength & Conditioning classes at Brophy.
Mr. Vanden Bosch attended the University of Nebraska, playing as defensive end with 142 tackles, 13 sacks, 34 tackles for loss and 46 quarterback pressures. He was also named Nebraska’s lifter-of-the-year three consecutive times, and after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in finance, he was drafted into the Arizona Cardinals.
While at the Cardinals, he suffered a torn ACL, but later went on to see action in every game of the Cardinals in 2004 and later played for the Tennessee Titans and the Detroit Lions before leaving the Lions in 2013.
Mr. Vanden Bosch later joined Brophy’s staff, acting as assistant Strength & Conditioning coach from 2023 and working as defensive line coach for Brophy’s freshman football team from 2022. Now, Mr. Vanden Bosch will be taking the place of Coach Joe Denk as head coach of Strength & Conditioning, a position Mr. Denk was in for the last ten years.
He plans to do a lot with his new position at Brophy, and wants to focus on personal training and development for each person. He shared one of his plans for the strength class when he said, “I can have the opportunity to individualize workouts for everybody, but to me, the important thing for both athletes and the general student is to teach them how the body works.”
A lot of what he wants to do with the Strength & Conditioning class is actually mirroring his time in the NFL. With how much training he did and who he did it with, he wants to work with students the way it was in the professional world. He echoes this, saying, “I credit my ability to make it in the NFL to the people I worked with and just the time & effort they invested in me. It’s been rewarding for me to invest in the high school athletes and see that progress.”
Mr. Vanden Bosch also wants students to be able to learn and not just follow orders, saying, “I think that it’s important in today’s day and age not to tell them what to do but to show these athletes their improvement and push on things that need improving.”
His plans for the Strength & Conditioning will most likely come into effect once he takes the position next year. These will allow him to bring his experience from the NFL to student athletes across Brophy’s campus.
