On Sunday nights, the student-run Bible study welcomes students of all religions to pray and reflect in a community setting.
It is a low-stress environment at Case Vanden Bosch ’26‘s house, where Brophy students of all walks of faith come to meet and share their love of God. The atmosphere is relaxed, with students showing up to his house and having some snacks and talking before they start their conversation. “There’s nothing you really need to know… you can just come and listen,” says Vanden Bosch.
The meetup starts with a few minutes of talking and introductions before moving into everyone’s highs and lows of the week. “We go around in a circle… everyone will say what their best point of the week was and then their lowest point,” said Mason Fees ’26. From there, students read a selected Bible passage chosen by Vanden Bosch and discuss it using questions Colin Goosen ’26 drafts beforehand.
The night ends with one-on-one prayer. “At the end… we go out in pairs…with someone else in the Bible study; we try to do someone you don’t really know very well, and then you talk about what’s going on in your lives and what you need to pray for,” Vanden Bosch said. “So then… throughout the next week, you know that someone’s prayed for you and your struggles.”
The group welcomes students of all religious backgrounds. “We have multiple people that are Jewish or maybe Muslim… we just all love God and love each other,” said Goosen. Unlike a more traditional, straightforward Bible study, they encourage everyone to give their own perspectives and ideas on the topic. “I think there might be an aura or an idea around a Bible study that’s super straightforward, this is what you do, and we’re gonna talk about the scripture in this way,” Gossen said, “we’re open to hearing everyone’s perspectives.” Students of different faiths are welcome to share their own perspectives or interpretations of the Bible. “None of us are experts, and we know that,” added Goosen.
Students interested in joining can reach out to Vanden Bosch for details. The group posts updates on Instagram before each meeting, welcoming new faces every week.
