Bobby Grant ’14 broke the 300-meter intermediate hurdle race state record Wednesday, April 28 at the Northeast Valley Championship, previously held by Devon Allen ’13.
Last month Grant vaulted into the U.S No. 1 spot for the 300-meter intermediate hurdle races, according to the official track times, but Wednesday’s race further secured his position.
At 36.24 seconds, this race was Grant’s fastest by 0.18 seconds even though Grant said he did not expect to perform as well.
“I didn’t think that I’d have the chance to break the record just because the conditions weren’t what they needed to be, but I went out there with a lot of confidence,” Grant said.
Grant also said he still believes Allen was a better hurdler than he is.
“It’s nice to beat his record, I never beat him in high school … so it is nice to finally get him at something,” Grant said. “But I still don’t consider myself a better hurdler than him.”
