THE ROUNDUP

The Brophy golf team hosted its annual Brophy Invitational at Greyhawk Golf Course on Aug. 25. Over 70 athletes from 13 different schools participated in the tournament.

Tony Hendricks ’19 won the the invite, for the second year in a row.

Hendricks finished the weekend five shots under par shooting a 70 on Saturday and a 69 on Sunday.

“Winning the invite back-to-back means the world to me,” Hendricks said. “The best part of it was having my teammates there supporting me the whole way. These are two wins I certainly won’t forget.”

“Along with being one of the best players in the country, [Hendricks] truly is a one of a kind person,” teammate Jackson Vickers ’19 said. “His humor, determination and easy-going attitude all contribute to him being a versatile and unique leader.”

Head coach Mr. Jon Shores has seen how Hendricks leads as a senior captain. “[Hendricks] carries himself in a mature way. He keeps his younger teammates involved I attribute that to his maturity.”

Hendricks will head to UCLA to play golf next season.

The golf team has their eyes set on high goals for this season. “Winning invitationals is really nice, but it would mean much more if we capitalize our season with a win at the state championship,” Hendricks said.

Brophy golf also captured the Antigua Tournament win on Sept. 2.

According to the National High School Golf Association, the team now is recognized as the fourteenth best men’s team in the country.

The team will use their most recent victory as a mental advantage. “The win at Antigua was a huge confidence and momentum booster,” Vickers said.

As for offseason preparation, the team has been responsible for bettering themselves on their own. “We can work out and his balls on the range all we want, because the more comfortable they get with tournament golf the better off we’re going to be as a team” said Mr. Shores.

The Broncos will look to improve on last years second place finish.
