Lowry Balances Punches and Purpose

By Anthony Ocampo Páramo ’26

Most teenagers spend their free time scrolling social media, but junior Harrison Lowry ‘27 can be found either throwing punches in the dojo or organizing fundraisers that raise millions for children with life-limiting illnesses.

Lowry serves on the teen board at Ryan House, where he helps organize fundraisers and events that raise over $3.5 million annually to support the families who rely on the home’s care.

His involvement started as part of his sophomore service project, where he spent time with children, making them feel loved and celebrated. Memorable experiences, like attending Ryan House’s prom for kids who may not live to attend their own, made the work personal, and soon after, a family friend invited him to join the board.

“Service is the most fulfilling thing you can do,” Lowry said. “I don’t think there’s a better calling in life than to help your neighbor.”

Outside of his service work, Lowry has a lifelong connection to martial arts. He started karate at the age of seven, later transitioning into kickboxing and jiu-jitsu when his dojo closed. Today, he trains regularly, pushing himself through the challenges of combat sports.

Though his future plans aren’t set in stone, Harrison says he knows one thing for certain: “I just want to impact people in a positive way. If I do that, I’ll consider myself successful.”
